This official Springbank single malt, an 18 year old from 1996, drawn from cask 147 and bottled at 58.4%. Springbank is a Campbeltown distillery run by J and A Mitchell since 1828, Campbeltown's most revered surviving distillery. Hedley Wright's family has kept the distillery independent for the best part of two centuries.

It was floor malted, lightly peated and distilled two and a half times, and condensed in traditional worm tubs. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, with vanilla under the oily fruit. Around the mid teens the malt gains depth while keeping its oily salt. Everything is done on site, the spirit going from still to cask to bottle in Campbeltown. Springbank, Longrow and Hazelburn each show a different face of the one distillery. The open larch washbacks are a rare survival in modern Scotch. The distillery has become a place of pilgrimage for whisky enthusiasts.

At its natural 58.4% it is concentrated. An oily, maritime character with light peat are layered with a vanilla and toffee sweetness. Beneath it run oily fruit, salt and a coastal depth. A long, oily, coastal finish lingers. This is the flagship malt of old Campbeltown.
