Springbank Private Bottling 15 Years Old 1998

This official Springbank single malt, a 15 year old release from 1998, drawn from cask 440 and bottled at 51.1%. A release of 264 bottles. Springbank has distilled in Campbeltown since 1828, Campbeltown's most revered surviving distillery. The distillery champions the old, slow, labour intensive way of making whisky.

It was given the part triple distillation unique to Springbank, and condensed in traditional worm tubs. Maturation in a sherry cask laid dried fruit over the maritime malt. Past a decade the oily spirit deepens, fruit and salt knitting with the oak. Everything is done on site, the spirit going from still to cask to bottle in Campbeltown. Campbeltown was once the whisky capital of the world, with more than thirty distilleries at its peak. Today just three distilleries survive in the old Kintyre whisky town. The maritime warehouses by the sea lend the malt its briny, oily depth.

At its natural 51.1% it is concentrated. An oily, maritime character with light peat are layered with dried fruit and a walnut richness. Beneath it run oily fruit, salt and a coastal depth. It finishes deep, complex and maritime. This is the flagship malt of old Campbeltown.
