Springbank Duty Paid Sample – For Trade Purposes Only 10 Years Old 2008

This official Springbank single malt, aged 10 year old from 2008, drawn from cask Rotation 169 and bottled at 60.8%. Springbank, founded in 1828 in Campbeltown, is campbeltown's most revered surviving distillery. The distillery champions the old, slow, labour intensive way of making whisky.

This was distilled the Springbank way, two and a half times from floor malted barley, and condensed in traditional worm tubs. A sherry cask wrapped the oily spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth. Younger here, it keeps a vigorous, briny freshness over the oily body. Everything is done on site, the spirit going from still to cask to bottle in Campbeltown. The maritime warehouses by the sea lend the malt its briny, oily depth. A 1940s Porteus mill and an open iron mash tun are part of the old setup. The Mitchell family has held the distillery for five generations. The town and the sea run through every cask of the make.

At cask strength 60.8% it is muscular. An oily, maritime character with light peat are layered with dried fruit, fig and walnut. Beneath it run oily fruit, salt and a coastal depth. The close is rich, fruit over a saline depth. This is the flagship malt of old Campbeltown.
