Description
A Springbank single malt, selected and bottled by Dà Mhìle Distillery, a 7 year old release from 1992 and bottled at 46%. Just 1000 bottles were filled. Springbank is a Campbeltown distillery founded in 1828, prized for its rich, oily, hand made spirit. The distillery champions the old, slow, labour intensive way of making whisky.
It was run two and a half times through the stills from lightly peated malt, and condensed in traditional worm tubs. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood adding a light honeyed sweetness. At a youthful age the make is lively, salty and full of character. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the oily, complex core over time. Few distilleries keep so much of the old craft alive under one roof. Campbeltown was once the whisky capital of the world, with more than thirty distilleries at its peak. Today just three distilleries survive in the old Kintyre whisky town.
Bottled at 46%, it is rounded. A salty, waxy depth with a whisper of peat meet a vanilla and toffee sweetness from the cask. It is rich and layered, the fruit and salt well matched. The finish runs deep, briny and warm. This is a complex, coastal Campbeltown whisky.
