Blackadder selected this Springbank matured to 30 year old from 1965, drawn from cask 1296 and bottled at 46%. Just 132 bottles were filled. Springbank has distilled in Campbeltown since 1828, prized for its rich, oily, hand made spirit. Bottles are released in small batches, often through ballots to meet the demand.

It was run two and a half times through the stills from lightly peated malt, the vapour cooled in worm tubs. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, with vanilla under the oily fruit. Decades leave it waxy and oxidative, candied fruit and brine with great depth. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the oily, complex core over time. The spirit is filled to cask and matured within the distillery walls. Few distilleries keep so much of the old craft alive under one roof. Campbeltown was once the whisky capital of the world, with more than thirty distilleries at its peak.

At 46% it is supple and briny. A salty, waxy depth with a whisper of peat meet vanilla, honey and coconut from the cask. A waxy weight and a saline tang give it real body. A long finish smoulders on salt and oil. This is Springbank's rich, oily, maritime style.
