Bottled by Glenscoma, this Springbank matured to 27 year old from 1991, drawn from cask 225 and bottled at 50.6%. Only 272 bottles were released. Springbank has distilled in Campbeltown since 1828, one of only three distilleries left in Campbeltown. Little has changed in the way the spirit is made for the best part of a century.

It was distilled the Springbank way, two and a half times from floor malted barley, and worm tub cooled in the old way. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, gentle American oak beneath the spirit. Past twenty years the spirit turns waxy and profound while keeping its character. The oily, robust make carries cask flavour while holding its own character. Campbeltown was once the whisky capital of the world, with more than thirty distilleries at its peak. Today just three distilleries survive in the old Kintyre whisky town. The maritime warehouses by the sea lend the malt its briny, oily depth.

At cask strength 50.6% it is muscular. A vanilla and toffee sweetness meets an oily, maritime character with light peat. The mouthfeel is oily, the fruit carried on a salty body. The finish runs deep, briny and warm. This is an oily, salty Campbeltown classic.
