Description
Single malt Springbank, an independent Face To Face Spirit Company bottling, aged 26 year old from 1993, drawn from cask FF005 and bottled at 53.3%. Just 12 bottles were filled. Springbank, distilling since 1828 in Campbeltown, is a byword for traditional Scotch whisky making. The distillery sits in the heart of Campbeltown, near the head of its sea loch.
This was floor malted, lightly peated and distilled two and a half times, with the spirit condensed in worm tubs. Maturation in a sherry cask laid dried fruit over the maritime malt. At this age it is rich and complex, the fruit folded into a waxy, briny body. The hands on, small scale working shapes a spirit of real individuality. The open larch washbacks are a rare survival in modern Scotch. The distillery has become a place of pilgrimage for whisky enthusiasts. Kintyre's damp, mild climate suits a long and gentle maturation. The old town of Campbeltown once rivalled Speyside as Scotland's whisky heart.
At its natural 53.3% it is concentrated. Oily orchard fruit, salt and a wisp of peat ride on dried fruit, fig and walnut. A waxy weight and a saline tang give it real body. A warming, oily finish lingers long. This is a revered Campbeltown single malt.
