Description
An official Springbank single malt, a 25 year old and bottled at 46%. 1200 bottles in all. Established in 1828, Springbank is famous for doing everything on site, from floor malting to bottling. The whole process, malting included, is carried out by hand on the one site.
The spirit was drawn off after two and a half distillations of gently peated malt, and slowly worm tub cooled. A sherry butt held it, the wood lending raisin and walnut. Beyond twenty years the malt grows waxy and deep, tropical fruit and salt over an oily base. A patient maturation suits the rich, complex Campbeltown spirit. The distillery has become a place of pilgrimage for whisky enthusiasts. Kintyre's damp, mild climate suits a long and gentle maturation. The old town of Campbeltown once rivalled Speyside as Scotland's whisky heart. Quality and tradition, not volume, have always been the watchwords here. The spirit is filled to cask and matured within the distillery walls.
At 46% it is supple and briny. Brine, wax and a light peat note sit over a sherried dried fruit and nuts. It is rich and layered, the fruit and salt well matched. Salt and oily fruit see out a long finish. This is a hand made Campbeltown single malt.
