Bottled by Decadent Drinks, this Springbank, a 24 year old release from 1999 and bottled at 54.5%. Springbank is a Campbeltown distillery distilling since 1828, one of only three distilleries left in Campbeltown. Water comes from Crosshill Loch, the barley malted on the distillery's own floors.

It was distilled two and a half times from lightly peated, floor malted malt, and worm tub cooled in the old way. A sherry cask wrapped the oily spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth. Beyond twenty years the malt grows waxy and deep, tropical fruit and salt over an oily base. Everything is done on site, the spirit going from still to cask to bottle in Campbeltown. Few distilleries keep so much of the old craft alive under one roof. Campbeltown was once the whisky capital of the world, with more than thirty distilleries at its peak. Today just three distilleries survive in the old Kintyre whisky town.

At its natural 54.5% it is concentrated. Dried fruit and a walnut richness meets an oily, maritime character with light peat. Soft fruit and brine sit behind the cask sweetness. It finishes deep, complex and maritime. This is an oily, salty Campbeltown classic.
