Description
This official Springbank single malt matured to 21 year old and bottled at 46%. Springbank has distilled in Campbeltown since 1828, prized for its rich, oily, hand made spirit. The distillery champions the old, slow, labour intensive way of making whisky.
It was given the part triple distillation unique to Springbank, and condensed in traditional worm tubs. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, gentle American oak beneath the spirit. At this age it is rich and complex, the fruit folded into a waxy, briny body. Long maturation suits the heavy, characterful make, the cask knitting slowly with the spirit. The spirit is filled to cask and matured within the distillery walls. Few distilleries keep so much of the old craft alive under one roof. Campbeltown was once the whisky capital of the world, with more than thirty distilleries at its peak. Today just three distilleries survive in the old Kintyre whisky town.
At 46% it is smooth and oily. A coastal, waxy spirit with gentle peat meet vanilla, cream and light coconut from the cask. Beneath it run oily fruit, salt and a coastal depth. It finishes deep, complex and maritime. This is the flagship malt of old Campbeltown.
