Springbank 18 Year Old 2023 Release

Springbank 18 Year Old represents one of the most established age statement expressions in the modern Springbank range. While various age statements have appeared over decades, the 18 year old began appearing in prviate releases in the mid 2000s, with catalogued batches as early as 2009. That period marked a move toward formalising a broader core range alongside the 10, 12 and 15 year olds, positioning the 18 as a mature, recurring expression rather than a sporadic limited release.

Similar to younger statements, casks differ annually. For the 2023 release, maturation is drawn from a combination of 65% ex bourbon barrels, 25% sherry casks and 10% rum casks. This mix brings depth without overwhelming the underlying spirit, with bourbon casks providing structure and clarity, sherry contributing dried fruit and spice, and a small rum component adding warmth and subtle sweetness. Bottled at 46% ABV, non chill filtered and with no added colour, the balance remains firmly spirit led despite the extended ageing.

On the nose, expect layered aromas of dried fruit, orchard and dark stone fruits, orange zest and gentle spice, underpinned by coastal air and mineral notes. Hints of honey, caramel and polished oak emerge with time in the glass. The palate is full and composed, showing fruit compote, toasted oak, soft spice and creamy malt, with saline minerality and a restrained brine running through the mid palate. The finish is long and warming, with lingering dried fruit, spice and gentle toffee sweetness.
