This is a Springbank single malt, chosen and bottled by Jack Wiebers Whisky World, a 16 year old Campbeltown malt from 1993, drawn from cask 913 and bottled at 52.4%. A release of 240 bottles. The Springbank distillery, in Mitchell family hands since 1828, is a byword for traditional Scotch whisky making. Campbeltown was its own protected whisky region long before the revival.

The make was given Springbank's unusual two and a half times distillation, and slowly worm tub cooled. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the distillery character to the fore. By this age the maritime weight rounds into a richer, fuller malt. Everything is done on site, the spirit going from still to cask to bottle in Campbeltown. The spirit is filled to cask and matured within the distillery walls. Few distilleries keep so much of the old craft alive under one roof. Campbeltown was once the whisky capital of the world, with more than thirty distilleries at its peak.

At a hearty 52.4% it carries real weight. Oily orchard fruit, salt and a wisp of peat ride on vanilla, cream and light coconut. Beneath it run oily fruit, salt and a coastal depth. It finishes deep, complex and maritime. This is the flagship malt of old Campbeltown.
