Springbank 14 Years Old 1993 NC² Range (Duncan Taylor)

Duncan Taylor bottled this Springbank matured to 14 year old from 1993 and bottled at 46%. Springbank has distilled in Campbeltown since 1828, run much as it was a century ago. The cult around Springbank has made it one of the most collected of all malts.

It was run through the distillery's part triple distillation, the malt floor malted and gently peated, then condensed through worm tubs. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood adding a light honeyed sweetness. By this age the maritime weight rounds into a richer, fuller malt. Years in oak deepen the fruit and the maritime character together. The spirit is filled to cask and matured within the distillery walls. Few distilleries keep so much of the old craft alive under one roof. Campbeltown was once the whisky capital of the world, with more than thirty distilleries at its peak. Today just three distilleries survive in the old Kintyre whisky town.

At an easy 46% it is gentle. Vanilla, cream and light coconut from the cask underpins brine, wax and a light peat note. A coastal salt and an orchard fruit lift it. It finishes deep, complex and maritime. This is a hand made Campbeltown single malt.
