Spirited Union Sweet Orange & Ginger

Sweet Orange and Ginger is a botanically flavoured rum from Spirited Union, a Dutch brand that builds infused, spice led rums for mixing. Column distilled and bottled at 38%, it makes no claim to be a straight aged rum, this is openly a flavoured product with orange and ginger to the fore.

The infusion defines it, the nose led by orange, pineapple and apple, the palate a straightforward run of orange and pineapple with the ginger adding a little lift. It is sweet and accessible by design, the kind of thing built for a rum spritz, a highball with ginger ale, or a simple citrus cocktail rather than neat contemplation. Honesty matters here, this is a flavoured rum and should be judged as one, where its bright, juicy character and easy strength are exactly the point. As a mixer it does its job cleanly, even if it offers little for the dry rum purist.
