Description
From Elixir Distillers comes this Speyside Distillery single malt, aged 25 year old from 1996 and bottled at 52.6%. The Speyside Distillery, painstakingly built by hand before its first spirit in 1990 at Drumguish by the River Tromie, is the source of the SPEY malts. It stood in for the fictional Lagganmore in the BBC series Monarch of the Glen.
Distilled in two of the smallest pot stills in Scotland under a single roof, giving the delicate, floral spirit at its heart. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the light character to the fore. Very old make from here turns profound, waxy and rich yet still fragrant. Years in oak round the spirit, the honey and orchard fruit deepening with age. The first single malt, Drumguish, was released in 1993 after three years in the warehouse. The distillery played the fictional Lagganmore in the BBC series Monarch of the Glen. The SPEY range and the dark Beinn Dubh are bottled by Harvey's of Edinburgh.
At a hearty 52.6% it carries real weight. Vanilla and a creamy note from the barrel runs under a clean, honeyed fruitiness. A dried fruit and a gentle oak spice give it depth. The finish is rounded, honeyed and soft. This is a delicate Speysider from the upper Spey.
