Description
Riegger's Selection selected this Speyside Distillery single malt, a 5 year old release from 2007 and bottled at 61.9%. The Speyside Distillery was painstakingly built by hand before its first spirit in 1990 at Drumguish by the River Tromie, and its entire production sits under a single roof. Short stills and a slow distillation are coaxed by hand towards a light, fruity spirit.
Distilled in two of the smallest pot stills in Scotland under a single roof, giving the delicate, floral spirit at its heart. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the light character to the fore. Still young, the malt is bright and fruity with a soft honey. A patient maturation suits the soft, fruity Speyside character. It is the most southerly Speyside distillery, nearest of all to the source of the Spey. The first single malt, Drumguish, was released in 1993 after three years in the warehouse.
At 61.9%, undiluted, it is deep and honeyed. Vanilla and a creamy note from the barrel, with apple, pear and heather honey. The mouthfeel is soft, the fruit carried on a honeyed body. A long, honeyed finish carries a fruity lift. This is a fruity malt from one of Scotland's smallest distilleries.
