This official Speyburn single malt, aged 16 year old from 2007, drawn from cask 284 and bottled at 52.6%. 246 bottles in all. Established in 1897 in a wooded glen on the edge of Rothes, Speyburn is a classic Speyside single malt. Charles Doig, inventor of the distillery pagoda, designed it, and his ventilator still tops the stillhouse.

It was worked through worm tubs that lend a fuller, rounder body, for the fresh, fruity Speyside make Speyburn is known for. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood adding a light honeyed sweetness. Around twelve to sixteen years the malt gains a fuller honey over the fruit. Refill oak lets the fresh distillery character lead, fruit over malt. One of the best selling malts abroad, it stays quietly under appreciated at home. The classic onion stills and worm tubs give a fresh yet rounded Speyside spirit. Hopkins also owned Tobermory on Mull when he built Speyburn in 1897. The cool Speyside glen gives a slow, even maturation in dunnage warehouses.

Undiluted at 52.6%, it is layered. A fresh, fruity sweetness meet a quiet vanilla from the refill oak. Beneath it run apple, honey and a soft spice. It finishes clean, fresh and fruity. This is a classic, fruity Speyside single malt.
