Description
A distillery bottling of Speyburn and bottled at 40%. Founded in 1897 in the heart of Speyside at Rothes, Speyburn is a classic Speyside single malt. Water comes from the Granty Burn, a clear tributary of the Spey.
The spirit was made in copper onion stills, the spirit cooled in worm tubs, for a fruity, honeyed make of real charm. Ex-Bourbon casks held the spirit, soft oak that lets the fruit lead. Carrying no age, it leans on apple, pear and a soft vanilla. Long, gentle ageing turns the orchard fruit towards honey and soft spice. The cool Speyside glen gives a slow, even maturation in dunnage warehouses. Bradan Orach, the distillery's youngest core malt, is Gaelic for golden salmon. Speyburn sits in a wooded glen on the edge of Rothes, one of Speyside's prettiest distilleries. Charles Doig, who designed it, invented the pagoda roof now seen across Scotch distilleries.
At 40% it is clean and fruity. Vanilla and a creamy note from the barrel, with apple, pear and heather honey. The mouthfeel is rounded, the fruit carried on a honeyed body. The finish runs fresh, soft and fragrant. This is a clean, fruity malt from the heart of Speyside.
