Description
This is a Speyburn single malt, chosen and bottled by Blackadder, an 11 year old Speyside malt from 2008, drawn from cask 701700 and bottled at 55%. A release of 256 bottles. Speyburn was founded in 1897 in a wooded glen on the edge of Rothes; it was designed by the pagoda architect Charles Doig. Inver House runs it alongside Old Pulteney, Balblair and anCnoc.
It was worked through worm tubs that lend a fuller, rounder body, for the fresh, fruity Speyside make Speyburn is known for. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending honey and vanilla. At a youthful age the orchard fruit is lively and the malt fragrant. Refill oak lets the fresh distillery character lead, fruit over malt. A long fermentation builds the fruity esters that mark the house style. One of the best selling malts abroad, it stays quietly under appreciated at home. The classic onion stills and worm tubs give a fresh yet rounded Speyside spirit.
Bottled at a cask strength 55%, it is rich. Fragrant honey and ripe fruit meet a quiet vanilla from the refill oak. Soft orchard fruit and vanilla sit behind the sweetness. Apple, honey and oak draw out the close. This is an easy going, honeyed Speyside malt.
