Description
A distillery bottling of Speyburn, a 10 year old and bottled at 46%. Speyburn was first built in 1897 in the Glen of Rothes on Speyside, and it has made its fruity Speyside malt for over a century. Water comes from the Granty Burn, a clear tributary of the Spey.
Distilled in classic Speyside onion stills and condensed in traditional worm tubs, giving the fragrant, rounded spirit at its heart. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the fresh character to the fore. Still young, the malt is bright and fruity with a soft honey. Years in oak round the spirit, the honey and orchard fruit deepening with age. Worm tub condensers are still used, lending the make a rounded, fragrant weight. The first spirit ran in a December snowstorm in 1897, to date the fillings to the Diamond Jubilee. Water is drawn from the Granty Burn, a clear tributary of the Spey. Inver House runs Speyburn alongside Old Pulteney, Balblair and anCnoc.
At an easy 46% it is gentle. The refill oak lending honey and vanilla, with apple, pear and heather honey. The mouthfeel is rounded, the fruit carried on a honeyed body. A long, honeyed finish carries a fruity lift. This is a clean, fruity malt from the heart of Speyside.
