Description
This official Speyburn single malt, a 10 year old release and bottled at 40%. Set in a wooded glen on the edge of Rothes, Speyburn has distilled since 1897. Inver House runs it alongside Old Pulteney, Balblair and anCnoc.
It was worked through worm tubs that lend a fuller, rounder body, for the fresh, fruity Speyside make Speyburn is known for. Maturation came in American oak, with vanilla under the orchard fruit. At a youthful age the orchard fruit is lively and the malt fragrant. Refill oak lets the fresh distillery character lead, fruit over malt. Bradan Orach, the distillery's youngest core malt, is Gaelic for golden salmon. Speyburn sits in a wooded glen on the edge of Rothes, one of Speyside's prettiest distilleries. Charles Doig, who designed it, invented the pagoda roof now seen across Scotch distilleries. It was the first Scottish distillery fitted with drum maltings, still preserved on site.
Reduced to 40%, it is mellow. Fragrant honey and ripe fruit meet a quiet vanilla from the refill oak. Soft orchard fruit and vanilla sit behind the sweetness. The close is soft, fruit over gentle oak. This is an easy going, honeyed Speyside malt.
