Sonsierra Selección Tinto is a young, unoaked Tempranillo from the Sonsierra growers’ cooperative in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Rioja. Fresh and fruit-forward, it shows red cherry, raspberry and plum with a light, juicy frame.
Description
Sonsierra Selección Tinto is made by Bodegas Sonsierra, the cooperative founded in 1962 by more than 240 growers in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, in northern Rioja Alta. The members tend over 500 hectares of vineyards on the chalky clay slopes below the Sierra de Cantabria, where Atlantic influence and good altitude keep the fruit fresh. This is a young red made from Tempranillo, vinified to capture primary fruit rather than barrel character. Without any oak ageing, the wine keeps the bright, juicy profile of the grape, its colour and aromatics protected by an early, careful fermentation, with malolactic fermentation softening the natural acidity. The result is a straightforward, immediate style meant to be drunk on release. The wine is bright cherry red with a purple rim. The nose is fresh red cherry, raspberry and plum with a light floral and earthy note. The palate is light to medium bodied, fruity and easy, with soft tannin, fresh acidity and a clean finish. Serve it slightly cool, around 14 to 15 degrees. It is a flexible everyday red for charcuterie, grilled pork, roast chicken and tomato-based pasta.
