Son Prim Cup is a Bordeaux style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah from a small family winery in Sencelles, Mallorca. Twelve months across French, American and Hungarian oak gives a ripe, full bodied island red.
Description
Son Prim Cup is a red from VT Mallorca, made by the small family run Son Prim winery in Sencelles from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. The estate began in 2003 working vines planted in the 1990s, across eight hectares where red clay over gravel and boulders predominates, free draining soil that limits vigour and concentrates the fruit. Mallorca's warm Mediterranean climate, tempered by sea breezes, ripens these grapes fully, which shows in the wine's depth and its generous 15 percent alcohol. Grapes are picked by hand into boxes and sorted in the vineyard and cellar. The wine ages twelve months in a mix of French, American and Hungarian oak, three wood types that each add a different shade of spice while the slow oxygen exchange softens the tannins. The 2023 is deep and dark, with ripe plum, cherry and red berries over dark chocolate, black pepper and vanilla from the barrels. The palate is full and warm, rich and rounded with ripe tannins and a long, spicy finish. Serve at 17 to 18 degrees and give it air. A wine for hearty roasts and grills.
