Description
Soca-rel works in D.O. Binissalem Mallorca and belongs to a movement of island growers returning to native grapes rather than international varieties. Politxó Blanc blends Macabeo with a white pressing of Manto Negro, Mallorca's own red grape, and the wine is farmed organically and made vegan. The Balearic climate is warm and Mediterranean, tempered by sea breezes, and the low 11.5 percent alcohol points to an early harvest that locks in acidity and keeps the aromatics fresh. The wine spends four months in French oak barrels, a short, light contact that adds a little texture and roundness while leaving the fruit in front. The colour is pale straw. The nose is bright and floral, with lemon, green apple and pear over white flowers and a scrub of wild Mediterranean herbs. The palate is light and fresh, gently rounded by the brief oak but driven by crisp acidity to a clean, faintly saline finish. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees.
