Description
Slyrs Bavarian Whisky Eierlikoer is an egg liqueur from the Slyrs distillery on Lake Schliersee, bottled at 20%. The distillery has made Upper Bavarian single malt since 1999, using a classic rough and fine distillation, and the name is a pseudo Gaelic take on Schliersee, its home town. Here that single malt is folded into the egg base, where fresh yolk and sugar meet the whisky to give the eggnog a depth that plain advocaat lacks.
The nose is slightly sweet with vanilla, the palate creamy with a subtle sweetness and an unmistakable Slyrs whisky note, the finish long and malty. As an egg liqueur it is a yolk and spirit emulsion, served chilled or at cool room temperature, and once opened it should be refrigerated and used within a finite window. Its custardy weight and malty edge make it a natural neat pour with coffee, and it lifts desserts such as ice cream or trifle. In a mixed serve it adds body, vanilla sweetness and a warm whisky backbone to creamy short cocktails.
