Skotlander Great Dane Barrel Aged

Great Dane is Skotlander's barrel-aged Caribbean blend, drawing molasses and cane juice rum from several origins including Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, Barbados, Jamaica and Panama, then bottled in Denmark at 40%. A substantial Foursquare component anchors it, giving Barbados pedigree to an otherwise wide-ranging mix.

The nose brings dried fruit, coffee and spice with a fruity lift, the palate carries dried fruit, coffee, light smoke and vanilla, and the finish turns sweet with coffee, vanilla and prunes. Marzipan, orange and butterscotch fill out the middle, and a gentle sweetness runs through it that nods toward the softer end of the style. Built across young three-to-eight year stock, it lands as a balanced, easy blend that drinks happily neat and stands up in a longer mixed glass, a fair-value snapshot of Foursquare-led rum before that name climbed in price.
