Description
A distillery only release from Skellig Six18 in Cahersiveen, Co. Kerry, bottled in 2024 at full cask strength. The young Iveragh distillery, named for the 618 steps of Skellig Michael, keeps its most forceful releases close to home, and this single pot still is one of them.
Matured first in ex-Bourbon casks and then finished in Ruby Port wood, it stacks red berry fruit, plum and cocoa on top of vanilla and the peppery, gingery bite of unmalted barley. At an undiluted 58.7% it asks for a little water, which opens the Port fruit and the creamy pot still texture underneath, leaving a finish of dark berries, ginger and toasted oak that runs long for so young a whiskey.
