Soft as crushed velvet, this leads with ripe cherry and cassis over a quiet seam of juniper. Sipsmith hand-picks wild sloes each autumn and steeps them in their copper-still London Dry until the fruit gives up its colour and stone-fruit sweetness. Long, rounded and gently winterish, with redcurrants lingering on the finish.

Description
Sipsmith set up in a Hammersmith garage in 2009, the first copper-pot distillery London had licensed in nearly two centuries, and they have kept their London Dry stubbornly classical ever since. This sloe gin starts from that award-winning spirit, then sits on wild blackthorn berries gathered by hand once the first frosts hit the hedgerows. Months of steeping draw out the deep ruby colour and a sweetness that is balanced rather than syrupy.
The nose offers redcurrant, ripe winter fruit and a faint marzipan note from the sloe stones. On the palate it turns soft and rounded, all dark cherry and cassis, with the juniper holding firm underneath; the finish is long and velvety, the sweetness kept in check. Pour over ice with a splash of sparkling wine for a quick sloe royale, or sip it neat after dinner.
