Description
Berry Bros & Rudd, the St James's Street wine and spirit merchant trading since 1698, bottled this Irish Reserve single malt from stock distilled at the Great Northern Distillery in Dundalk, Co. Louth. It appeared in 2021 at a considered 44.2% for the European market.
Ex-bourbon casks frame the malt without crowding it. Fresh orchard fruit and citrus come first, then honey, a rich cooked mash maltiness and a clean cereal finish. It is classic merchant bottling logic, choose good casks, bottle at a strength that flatters them and let the origin speak, and the result is one of the more polished readings of the Great Northern's unpeated malt currently in circulation.
