Mesquida Mora makes this young Mallorcan red from the native Manto Negro and Callet with Syrah and Merlot, farmed biodynamically. Four months in used barrels keep it fresh and fragrant, with red berry fruit and a herbal, Mediterranean lift.
Description
Sincronia Negre is a young red from VT Mallorca made by Mesquida Mora, a biodynamic project run by siblings Jaume and Bàrbara. It blends the Balearic natives Manto Negro and Callet with Syrah and Merlot. Manto Negro and Callet are pale, low-tannin island grapes that give light, fragrant reds suited to Mallorca's warm Mediterranean climate, where sea breezes and limestone soils help keep the wines fresh despite the heat. Biodynamic farming, with the soils worked by horse, sits at the centre of the estate's approach. The wine spends just four months in used French oak, enough to soften it without adding oak flavour, so the fruit and freshness stay forward in this early-drinking style. The colour is a bright, medium red. The nose shows red berries, cherry and a little plum, with dried Mediterranean herbs, pepper and a floral note. The palate is light to medium bodied and juicy, the red fruit carried by fresh acidity and a soft tannin, finishing clean and savoury. Serve at 14 to 16 degrees, with a light chill on a warm day. It pairs with grilled pork, roast chicken and tomato-based dishes.
