Description
Adegas Castro Brey makes this varietal Albarino in Rias Baixas from old vines over seventy-five years old, planted on the highest part of the estate where the soil is shallow and granite based. The old vines give low yields and concentrated fruit, while the granite ground and cool, damp Atlantic climate lend the wine its firm acidity and saline minerality. The fruit is hand harvested and carefully selected, with a second sorting in the cellar, then worked with cool maceration in temperature-controlled stainless steel to draw aromatic freshness and gentle texture from the skins before fermentation. This is a fresh, unoaked style that keeps the fruit clean and the minerality to the fore. In the glass it is pale straw with green highlights, showing lemon, green apple, white peach and white flowers over a stony, saline note. The palate is crisp and precise, with citrus and orchard fruit, a fine mineral cut and a long, salty finish that reflects the coastal granite. Serve at around 10 degrees in a white-wine glass.
