Silver Seal Old Navy Rum

Silver Seal Old Navy Rum is a navy style molasses blend from the collector respected Modena house, bottled at a robust 57%. The Jamaican influence is strong, with glue and ester funk leading the nose alongside honey, spice and a heavy, weighty feel.

Column distilled and bottled in the unsweetened full proof tradition Silver Seal is known for, with added sugar unstated, it shows dark chocolate, spice and caramel on a rough, powerful palate, finishing on wood, more dark chocolate and warm spice. The strength is high but reasonably well integrated, and a little time open lets it round out. There is a touch of coconut and banana under the funk, giving it a fuller, more chocolatey character than many navy blends. It is aimed at drinkers who enjoy Jamaican forward navy style rum such as Smith and Cross but want a slightly more rounded take, and it is best enjoyed neat.
