A cask strength single cask Long Pond from 2000 bottled by Silver Seal, fifteen years old at 51.9%, intense and fresh with glue, ester and vanilla giving way to citrus, toffee, leather and ripe strawberry.
Description
Silver Seal, the collector-respected Modena bottler, released this 2000 Long Pond as a single cask, aged fifteen years in ex-bourbon and bottled at 51.9%. Long Pond is a historic Trelawny Wedderburn distillery whose pot still rums run funky and fruit forward, and this is a vivid, high-intensity example of that lineage.
Distilled on pot still from molasses, the nose opens with glue, faint ester and vanilla before toffee, fruit, lime and leather appear, the classic Jamaican funk markers in full view. The palate is woody, intense, fresh and citrusy, the finish warm with citrus and oak, while a flash of bright strawberry lifts the close. At 51.9% it is powerful but composed, the cask supporting rather than dominating. Unsweetened and bottled from a single barrel, this is a fresh, estery, characterful Long Pond for drinkers who chase the distillery's funkier, fruit-driven side at honest cask strength.
