Rich and tropical, this single-cask Silver Seal Bellevue 1998 layers ripe papaya, milk chocolate and caramel over toasted oak and green-pepper spice, a seventeen-year aged Guadeloupe rum bottled at a well-judged cask strength of 50%.
Description
Silver Seal is a collector-respected Italian bottler from Modena, known for unsweetened single casks at honest strength. This Bellevue is a single-cask Guadeloupe rum from the 1998 vintage, aged seventeen years, drawn from the Marie Galante distillery that quietly supplies much of the independent trade.
Long tropical maturation in ex-bourbon wood has built a deep, balanced profile: ripe papaya and tropical fruit, milk chocolate and caramel, all framed by toasted oak and a lift of green pepper, ginger and cinnamon. At 50% the strength feels perfectly chosen, full and rich without heat, the wood, fruit and spice in fine harmony. This is a mature, layered cask that rewards unhurried attention, the kind of bottling that has only grown more sought after with time.
