Siflogo Winery makes this dry Greek rosé from the indigenous Mavropatrinó grape on the Ionian island of Lefkada. Six months on stainless steel keep it fresh, with red berry fruit, citrus peel and a saline, herbal edge.
Description
Siflogo Winery produces this rosé under PGI Lefkada, in the Ionian Islands off Greece's western coast. The wine comes from Mavropatrinó, a rare indigenous red variety grown in a maritime climate where sea breezes and cooler nights help the grapes hold acidity through ripening. Fermentation and six months of ageing take place in stainless steel, a reductive method that excludes oxygen and locks in primary fruit and freshness rather than building secondary complexity. Farming is natural and organic, with no flavour added from oak. The colour is a pale to medium pink. The nose leads with red berries and cherry, lifted by citrus peel, white flowers and a thread of wild thyme that reflects the island scrubland. The palate is dry and bright, the acidity firm and the texture light, finishing clean with a savoury, saline grip typical of coastal Greek rosés. Serve well chilled at around 8 to 10 degrees in a standard white wine glass. It works as an aperitif and suits grilled fish, shellfish and Greek salad with feta.
