Siflogo makes Keropatis from the native Vertzami grape on the island of Lefkada in Greece. Vinified in stainless steel at just 12.3 percent, it is a lively, fresh red of black raspberry, red fruit and a peppery, herbal lift.
Description
Siflogo is a small natural and organic estate on the Ionian island of Lefkada in Greece, working the indigenous Vertzami grape under the PGI Lefkada designation. Vertzami is a deeply coloured, naturally high-acid variety grown here in a mountain village, where the maritime climate and cooler hillside sites keep alcohol modest and freshness high, giving a wine of just 12.3 percent. Organic farming and a hands-off, natural approach in the cellar keep the wine bright and unforced. It is vinified and aged for five months in stainless steel, with no oak, so the fruit stays primary and the wine keeps its vivid colour, freshness and clear varietal character. The colour is deep but bright. The nose shows black raspberry, red cherry and plum with a peppery, herbal lift and a faint earthy note. The palate is light to medium bodied and fresh, with lively acidity, fine tannin and a clean, savoury finish. This is a vibrant, summery island red made for easy drinking. Serve lightly chilled at 14 degrees in a standard glass, with grilled pork, poultry or tomato-based dishes.
