Description
Sierra Cantabria is a family winery in Laguardia, in the Rioja Alavesa. This rosado draws on Tempranillo, Garnacha and Viura from vineyards at San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Labastida, sites with limestone-clay soils that hold water and lend freshness in a continental climate. Harvest is by hand, with a double selection in the vineyard and again at the winery. All three varieties are co-macerated together for four days, a brief skin contact that draws out only a pale colour and a little aromatic complexity before pressing, with Viura adding floral lift and Tempranillo and Garnacha the red fruit core. Cool fermentation preserves the primary aromatics rather than building texture. The colour is very pale pink, close to a white. The nose is subtly floral over fresh red fruit, with strawberry, cherry and a citrus edge. The palate is dry and crisp, with red berries and white peach on bright acidity, closing clean and savoury. Serve chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass. It is an easy aperitif that also handles grilled white fish, shellfish and light rice dishes.
