Description
Shizuoka Single Cask #2017-056 is a 4 Years Old single malt from Gaiaflow's Shizuoka distillery in Shizuoka prefecture, drawn from a single Ex-Bourbon cask, distilled in 2017 and bottled in 2021 for the Japanese domestic market. As one of the distillery's earliest single cask releases, it documents the character of Shizuoka's founding-year spirit: vigorous, fruit-forward and shaped by the house's cedar washbacks and copper pot stills.
At 62.6% and undiluted, the cask strength bottling is robust and direct. Ex-Bourbon maturation over four years brings vanilla, citrus peel and fresh apple, the wood still allowing the vivid new make character to show through. The cedar washbacks, a signature of the Shizuoka production process, add a subtle herbal and aromatic thread that distinguishes these early releases from other young Japanese single malts.
