Description
Shizuoka 6 Years Old 2018 Cask #864 is a single cask single malt from Gaiaflow's Shizuoka distillery in Shizuoka prefecture, selected by Scottish independent Blackadder and released for the European market in 2025. With six years in a first-fill Bourbon Barrel, it is one of the longer-aged single cask Shizuoka bottlings available from the 2018 vintage, and the first-fill wood gives a more intense oak conversation than a refill cask would allow.
At 63.7%, it arrives at full cask strength without dilution. The first-fill Bourbon Barrel will have contributed a generous vanilla and caramel sweetness, alongside the coconut and light spice that first-fill American oak typically adds at this strength. Flavour data for this specific cask is not recorded, but six years of contact with virgin-char bourbon wood means the spirit will have moved noticeably beyond the raw, new-make character of earlier Shizuoka releases, while the distillery's inherent fruit-forward clarity and cedar freshness remain the foundation.
