Shizuoka 5 Years Old

Shizuoka 5 Years Old is a cask strength single malt from Gaiaflow's distillery in Shizuoka prefecture, bottled from an Ex-Bourbon Puncheon cask for global distribution in 2025. At five years, it is one of the older age-stated expressions from a distillery that has been building its stock since 2016, and the larger Puncheon format means a slower, more measured extraction from the wood than a standard barrel would provide.

The Ex-Bourbon Puncheon lends vanilla, beeswax and ripe stone fruit alongside the light cereal and orchard character that defines the Shizuoka house style, shaped in part by the distillery's cedar washbacks and the ex-Karuizawa copper pot still. Bottled at 55.5% in a 500ml format, the spirit carries good weight without heaviness, showing what five years in quality American oak can achieve for a Shizuoka malt.
