Shizuoka 5 Years Old 2018 Cask #864 is a single cask single malt from Gaiaflow's Shizuoka distillery in Shizuoka prefecture, selected and bottled by Belgian independent bottler Asta Morris for the Belgian market in 2023. Distilled in 2018, one of the distillery's earliest production years following its 2016 opening, it spent five years in a Bourbon Barrel before being bottled at cask strength without dilution.
At 55.6%, the cask delivers citrus and cooked fruit alongside a honey sweetness and a fragrant, hay-like delicacy that speaks to the lightness of Shizuoka's new make. The Bourbon Barrel has added gentle vanilla structure without masking the distillery's inherent fruit-forward quality, and the 2018 vintage carries a particular freshness, drawn from the early days of Gaiaflow's production when the combination of cedar washbacks and the rescued ex-Karuizawa pot still was still finding its voice.
