Shizuoka 4 Years Old 2019 is a single cask cask strength single malt from Gaiaflow's Shizuoka distillery in Shizuoka prefecture, drawn from an ex-bourbon Octave cask, distilled in 2019 and bottled in 2023 as a limited event release. The Octave format is notably well suited to younger spirits, providing more intensive wood contact than standard maturation and building texture and sweetness at an accelerated rate.
At 50.4%, the result is a rich, layered single cask with vanilla, toasted oak, fresh apple and a spicy warmth at the core. Gaiaflow's cedar washbacks and the Shizuoka new make's natural fruit character run as a counterpoint to the Octave influence, keeping the spirit lively rather than simply sweet. Part of the distillery's 2019 Octave series, alongside several closely related event bottlings from the same production year.
