Shizuoka 4 Years Old 2019 is a single cask cask strength single malt from Gaiaflow's Shizuoka distillery in Shizuoka prefecture, drawn from an ex-bourbon Octave cask, distilled in 2019 and bottled in 2023 for an event market. The Octave format, a smaller cask that increases the wood-to-spirit ratio, typically accelerates sweetness and spice in a four-year maturation, pulling more from the American oak than a standard barrel in the same time.
At 50.4%, this Octave single cask shows vanilla, caramel, baked apple and a warm spice, with the Shizuoka new make's freshness still present as a counterweight. The cedar washbacks that are central to Gaiaflow's production add a subtle aromatic note that persists even in the context of assertive Octave maturation. A compact, flavour-rich single cask from the distillery's 2019 vintage.
