Shizuoka 4 Years Old 2018 is a single cask cask strength single malt from Gaiaflow's Shizuoka distillery in Shizuoka prefecture, distilled in 2018 and bottled in 2023 for the Japanese domestic market. Moving into the distillery's second and third production years, the 2018 vintage single casks give an opportunity to compare how Shizuoka's spirit is developing across successive distillations.
At 64.3%, this Ex-Bourbon single cask is intense and direct, delivering raw vanilla, citrus zest and fresh grain without significant dilution from the wood. Four years in American oak has provided structure and some sweetness, but the new make character, shaped by Gaiaflow's cedar washbacks and copper pot stills, remains vivid at this strength. A worthwhile single cask for those interested in following the trajectory of Shizuoka's maturing production programme.
