Description
Shizuoka 4 Years Old 2017 is a single cask single malt from Gaiaflow's Shizuoka distillery in Shizuoka prefecture, matured in an Ex-Bourbon Octave cask, distilled in 2017 and bottled in 2021 for an event market. The Octave, a small-format cask of around 50 litres, provides an intensified wood extraction compared with standard barrel maturation, and at four years has drawn considerable character from the American oak.
At 59%, the spirit is dense and concentrated, with vanilla, baked apple and toasted cereal at the core, enriched by the kind of spice and sweetness the Octave format typically accelerates. Gaiaflow's cedar washbacks contribute a subtle aromatic note that persists even beneath the assertive wood influence, keeping the spirit distinctly Shizuoka in character. A limited event bottling for enthusiasts of early-distillation releases.
