Shakara RUM

Shakara is a Thai distillery release, a fifteen year old rum bottled at a comfortable 46.2 percent and matured in ex bourbon. It sits in the soft, dessert leaning end of the spectrum, an accessible everyday sipper that delivers warmth and sweetness without asking for much concentration.

The long ageing in ex bourbon gives a rounded, gourmand profile with plenty of vanilla and toffee. The nose runs to chocolate, coconut, oak and vanilla, the palate to caramel, wood, chocolate and coconut, and the finish stays on coconut, spice, oak and vanilla, picking up molasses syrup, allspice and yellow dried fruit along the way. The body is on the lighter side and the wood soft. Comparable in feel to El Dorado 12 or a gentle Foursquare blend, it is a comfy, fairly priced daily pour that is a touch different without straying far from familiar territory.
