Septima make this Malbec Reserva in Mendoza, high in the Argentine Andes. Ten months in oak give ripe plum and black cherry fruit, sweet spice and a soft, full-bodied palate built on the altitude.
Description
Septima produce this Malbec Reserva in Mendoza, the high-altitude heart of Argentine wine in the foothills of the Andes. Malbec thrives here, ripening to deep colour and ripe, plummy fruit under intense sunlight. Altitude is the key factor, as the cool mountain nights at these elevations preserve acidity and freshness that balance the warm-climate ripeness, while the strong daytime sun thickens the skins and deepens the colour and tannin. The semi-desert soils and dry, sunny climate keep the fruit healthy and concentrated. The wine is aged for ten months in oak barrels followed by two months in bottle, the oak softening the tannins through slow oxygen exchange and adding vanilla, mocha and sweet spice to the rich fruit. Expect a deeply coloured red with ripe plum, black cherry and blackberry, lifted by violet and framed by chocolate and vanilla oak. The palate is full bodied and supple, with rounded tannins, a peppery edge and a warm, generous finish. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees. It is a classic partner for grilled and barbecued red meat.
