Hermanos Peciña make this young Rioja red in San Vicente de la Sonsierra from Tempranillo with Graciano and Garnacha. Aged six months in oak barrels, it shows bright cherry fruit, a touch of spice and the classic, savoury Rioja stamp.
Description
Hermanos Peciña was founded in 1997 in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, in the heart of Rioja Alta, and has grown into a sizeable producer working in the traditional Rioja idiom. This Tinto Cosecha is the estate's young, early drinking red, made from Tempranillo with Graciano and a little Garnacha Tinta from the D.O.Ca. Rioja. The vineyards sit on the clay and limestone soils of the Sonsierra, where the Sierra de Cantabria shelters the vines and a cooler, semi continental climate gives a long growing season that builds fresh acidity and bright fruit. The wine spends six months in oak barrels, a short ageing that softens the tannins and adds a light frame of vanilla and spice while keeping the emphasis firmly on fruit. The colour is a bright cherry red. The nose shows ripe red cherry, raspberry and a gentle savoury, spicy note. The palate is medium bodied, lively and supple, with fresh acidity, soft tannins and a clean finish that reflects the Rioja terroir. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees, lightly chilled if you wish. It suits roast lamb, grilled pork and poultry as well as tapas.
