Bodegas Hermanos Peciña makes this Rioja Reserva from clay-limestone vineyards in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, led by 95 percent Tempranillo. Fermented with native yeasts and aged 36 months in American oak, it is mature, savoury and gently spiced.
Description
Señorío de P. Peciña Reserva is a traditional Rioja from Bodegas Hermanos Peciña, a blend led by Tempranillo at 95 percent with a little Graciano and Garnacha. The grapes come from selected vineyards around San Vicente de la Sonsierra, where the clay-limestone soils and high planting density give structured, age-worthy Tempranillo, the limestone holding moisture through the dry summer and lending freshness. Fermentation uses only native yeasts, which preserves the character of the site. As a Reserva in the classic mould, the wine spends a long 36 months in American oak barrels, where slow oxygen exchange resolves the tannin and the American oak contributes vanilla, coconut and sweet spice, while the extended ageing develops savoury, tertiary notes of leather and tobacco. The colour is mature cherry red with a brick edge. The nose is layered and evolved, with cherry, red fruit, vanilla, leather and dried herbs. The palate is medium bodied and balanced, with soft, resolved tannin and a long, savoury finish. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees. It is a classic partner for roast lamb and game.
