Hermanos Pecina makes this young white Rioja from Viura, grown on estate vines in Rioja Alta. Unoaked and fresh, it shows white flowers, green apple, citrus and a lift of fine herbs.
Description
Senorio de P. Pecina Blanco Cosecha is a young white from D.O.Ca. Rioja, made from Viura by Hermanos Pecina. Pedro Pecina founded the estate in 1992 at San Vicente de la Sonsierra in the heart of Rioja Alta, after almost twenty years working for other wineries in the area, and the family farm 50 hectares of their own vines. Rioja Alta sits at higher altitude with a cooler, Atlantic-influenced climate and clay-limestone soils, conditions that preserve acidity and give Viura its fresh, floral profile. This is made in a young, unoaked style, so the fruit and freshness lead and the wine keeps a clean, direct character rather than the toasted note of barrel-aged white Rioja. The colour is pale straw. The nose is floral, with white flowers over green apple, citrus and a lift of fine dried herbs. The palate is fresh and dry, with lemon, pear and white peach carried by crisp acidity to a clean finish. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10C. It works as an aperitif and with white fish, shellfish and salads.
